Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson has taken a swipe at Spurs while defending his team’s Champions League record.

Last night’s 2-2 draw at home with Paris St Germain was greeted almost like a defeat by some fans with the French side looking certain to pip the Gunners to top spot in Group A.

That scenario means the Arsene Wenger’s side will be drawn against a group winner such as Barcelona at the next stage of the competition.

While Arsenal fans come to terms with that matter their north London rivals are wondering about the merits of dropping down to the Europa League or a complete exit from European football after Christmas.

Getting to the last 16 is not the easiest thing in the world to do,” Jenkinson told The Telegraph. “Tottenham have obviously seen that and we have done well to get to this point.

“We have held our own and are joint top. The only thing that is holding us back is the head to head rule, which is frustrating when you look at our goal difference and it counts for nothing.

“The rule is very frustrating, I’m not a fan of that. But it is what it is, we are through to the last 16 and all we can do is go to Basel and have a go there and hope things pan out well for us.”

PSG only require to beat Ludogorets at home on matchday six to claim top spot with Arsenal away to Basel the same evening. After drawing 1-1 in Paris last night’s 2-2 draw at the Emirates means that PSG have the better head to head due to away goals.
