He’s been a Celtic player since 2010 but Honduras international Emilio Izaguirre has admitted he saw a Parkhead exit blocked by Brendan Rodgers over the summer, report CeltsAreHere.com.

The weblog reiterated the fact that Izaguirre completed an end-of-season lap of honour where he collapsed to his knees last term in what appeared to be a farewell following a six-year association.

However, the 30-year-old remained and has started Celtic’s last three fixtures at left back in light of Kieran Tierney’s injury.

Speaking about how the summer panned out, Izaguirre claimed: “There was a time when I thought I would be leaving Celtic and Scotland.

“Last summer, I tried to move to another club to play more football but the manager told me he needed to keep me in case anything happened to young KT”

Having made over 160 appearances for Celtic since making his Hoops debut back in 2010, the Honduran had been the first choice option at left back for many years prior to Kieran Tierney’s meteoric rise from the youth ranks.

It would appear that Brendan Rodgers’ stance is being justified with the Northern Irishman able to call upon the experienced full back given Tierney’s current spell on the sidelines.
