Recently linked with the signature of Rennes striker Paul-Georges Ntep, Liverpool are facing competition from Southampton for the Frenchman’s signature, report The Mirror.

Twice capped by France, the 24-year-old is in the last six months of his contact at the Ligue 1 club who are now believed to be willing to cash in on the forward.

Rennes know that if they don’t receive a fee for the Reds target in January, they will lose him on a free in the summer so there appears to be huge potential in Jurgen Klopp’s men pulling this deal off.

However, questions would need to be raised over the amount of game time Ntep could expect at Anfield with Daniel Sturridge struggling for regular game time in the centre forward’s role right now, let alone Divock Origi and Danny Ings.

EvenĀ for Southampton, Charlie Austin is now Claude Puel’s first choice striker with Shane Long having made way so Ntep will seemingly need to weigh up his options very carefully.

It’s worth noting that while Ntep’s preferred position is as a centre forward, the Cameroonian-born forward can also play off the left flank.
