Currently on loan with League Two side Luton Town until January, Hatters boss Nathan Jones has claimed Newcastle United starlet Alex Gilliead is destined for the Premier League, report Bedfordshire News.

Having made the Magpies’ first team squad as an unused substitute in an FA Cup tie at Leicester City in January 2015, Gilliead still awaits his Newcastle United debut but he should become a top flight player in the future according to Jones.

“I believe he’s going to be a thoroughbred player, I believe he’s going to be a Premier League player. He’s kind of backing up my words,” said the Welshman.

Spending last season on loan at Carlisle United, Gilliead is forging a key part of Jones’ plans at Kenilworth Road so far this season having started all of the Hatters’ last three fixtures.

A forward who can also play wide, Gilliead is yet to score a league goal for Luton Town but his overall contribution hasn’t gone unnoticed by Jones who is more than open to signing the player permanently.

Jones continued: “It’s a little bit early but we’d love to have him in our ranks permanently. That’s the type of player he is, that’s the type of player we look for.”
