New rival emerges to steal £60m+ Man United target

|

Reportedly keen on him following six goals in first nine games of the season, Manchester United face new competition to land Everton striker Romelu Lukaku, report the Daily Star.

According to a previous report by The Sun, Bayern Munich are plotting a record breaking £65 million swoop for the Belgian international which if successful, would prove a record breaking fee in the Bundesliga.

Having already scouted the Toffees striker when Michael Reschke attended Everton’s 1-1 draw at Manchester City earlier this month, the Bayern chief would’ve been pleased with what he saw as Lukaku struck a sublime solo goal.

As far as Manchester United’s interest goes, Zlatan Ibrahimovic is scoreless in his last five Premier League outings and with the 35-year-old only on a one-year deal at Old Trafford, he won’t be around forever.

Jose Mourinho infamously didn’t believe in Lukaku enough to keep him at Chelsea back in July 2014 when selling him to Everton for £28 million.

Since then, the 23-year-old has struck 34 goals in 80 Premier League appearances in his permanent spell at Goodison Park.

It remains to be seen whether Manchester United would rival Bayern with a formal offer for Lukaku but at a fee of £65 million, Everton might find that kind of money too difficult to turn down for their prized asset.
