He’s grown used to a substitutes’ role at Manchester United of late but Everton boss Ronald Koeman would love Wayne Rooney to return to Everton, report Sky Sports.

Speaking ahead of the Toffees’ Premier League match-up against West Ham United on Sunday, the Dutch boss wasn’t ruling anything out in regards to a potential Rooney reunion.

“He’s a great player, he’s still not finished his career,” claimed Koeman.

“I don’t know how his situation is. That’s not my problem. Of course, if there is a possibility that Rooney is an option for Everton, I’m very pleased.”

Ever since Rooney was benched following Manchester United’s 3-1 loss against Watford in September, speculation has been rife about the 31-year-old’s potential whereabouts next season.

With Major League Soccer franchise LA Galaxy currently the favourites to sign Rooney at 11/4, Everton are around 9/1 in the betting forecast.

The Toffees have also recently been linked with a move for Roma’s Kevin Strootman as a potential midfield successor to Gareth Barry but in many ways, Rooney could perform a similar role.

In terms of Everton’s striking power right now, there are no problems on that front with Romelu Lukaku in red hot form, having already scored six goals so far this term.
