Heavily interested in recruiting another centre back in the lead up to January, Chelsea are willing to meet AC Milan’s £49 million valuation for Alessio Romagnoli, report talkSPORT.

The Blues suffered during John Terry’s absence from the team through injury and 21-year-old Romagnoli is already adept at playing Antonio Conte’s system of deploying three at the back.

Only signing for the Rossoneri from Roma last August, Romagnoli has made 40 Serie A appearances for the San Siro giants while earning two caps with the Italian national side in 2016.

While Kurt Zouma is closing in on a comeback following a long spell out of the team with injury, Chelsea supporters still crave a true successor to John Terry’s throne with the Blues captain now 35-years-old.

In the Blues’ most recent 3-0 victory over Leicester City, Conte deployed a back three of Cesar Azpilicueta, Gary Cahill and David Luiz who would represent Romagnoli’s immediate competition if recruited in January.
