Chelsea eyeing up £24m swoop for Matic alternative

|

He’s been interesting Liverpool since last season but Chelsea are now ready to beat the Reds in the race to sign FC Porto midfielder Ruben Neves, report The Mirror.

It is claimed Antonio Conte’s Blues are ready to tempt the Portuguese giants into a sale by offering £24 million cash plus a player and add-ons for the 19-year-old central midfielder.

Neves made history when becoming the youngest player to captain a side in the Champions League last term at just 18-years-old and he’s started the 2016/17 Primeira Liga campaign well with Porto currently sitting third.

An interesting sub plot in this particular transfer pursuit is the fact Chelsea reportedly want some indications over Ruben Neves’ whereabouts by the first week of November.

With Cesc Fabregas having been linked with AC Milan recently and Nemanja Matic with Manchester United, the Blues may well be plotting a midfield reshuffle behind the scenes.

One thing is for sure however and that is the fact that any swoop for Neves won’t come without heavy competition with Liverpool, Valencia and Juventus all credited with an interest in the two-cap Portuguese international.
