Chelsea have been handed a blow in their intentions to recruit a new centre back in January with Alessio Romagnoli content at his current club AC Milan, report TeamTalk.com.

Speaking to Premium Sport, 21-year-old Romagnoli claimed in no uncertain terms: “I’m happy here, I’m happy and I hope to stay in Italy.”

Failing to conclude deals for either Kalidou Koulibaly or Leonardo Bonucci in the summer, Antonio Conte’s side sanctioned a deal for the surprise re-signing of David Luiz on Deadline Day.

Despite Chelsea players now getting accustomed to Conte’s 3-4-3 formation with the Blues thrashing Manchester United 4-0 yesterday afternoon, the West London side have still been frantically linked with multiple centre back’s.

But it would appear that the Blues’ swoop for Romagnoli is over with the Italian international an undisputed first choice selection under Vincenzo Montella at San Siro.

Having made eight appearances for the Rossoneri so far this season, the Serie A giants only trail paces-setters Juventus by two points after defeating the Bianconeri 1-0 at the weekend.
