Arsenal transfer fell through due to positional differences

Arsenal fans are delighted to call upon Hector Bellerin at right back right now but a proposed deal for fellow full back Djibril Sidibe fell through this summer, report Sky Sports.

Making his senior international debut with France last month, Sidibe ended up joining Ligue 1 giants Monaco in July but turned down the Gunners’ advances due to regular playing time doubts.

Speaking to Le Parisien, Sidibe claimed: “I was on the brink [of signing for Monaco] and [Arsenal] gave me a headache by making a bid at the last moment.

“After reflecting on it, I was not certain my playing time would be guaranteed.”

“I would have played maybe 25 games this season, including the cups. They also wanted to use me on the left whereas I want to establish myself on the right.”

At the end of the summer transfer window, Arsene Wenger didn’t bring any new full back’s in at Arsenal although Rob Holding and Shkodran Mustafi are capable of playing at right back.

Hector Bellerin has been the subject of intense transfer gossip over the last couple of weeks with Barcelona and now Manchester City linked with the Spanish international.

If the Gunners were to cash in on the former Barca academy product anytime soon, perhaps their interest in Sidibe isn’t completely dead.

After all, the 24-year-old certainly left the door open regarding moving to the Premier League in the next stage of his development.

“I chose to stay in Ligue 1 and then leave for the Premier League next year because it is a competition that greatly appeals to me,” continued Sidibe.
