Arsenal will have to battle Chelsea if they want to sign former Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City midfielder Steven N’Zonzi, report the Daily Star.

According to Spanish publication Sport, both London giants are interested in landing the uncapped French midfielder who boasts a release clause of £26.7 million.

Now at Sevilla of course, N’Zonzi’s career has scaled new heights since making over 190 top flight appearances in a seven-year association with the Premier League.

A favourite of not only former Sevilla boss Unai Emery but also Jorge Sampaoli who has started him seven times in La Liga thus far, both Arsene Wenger and Antonio Conte’s men would need to be aggressive in any transfer pursuit.

Despite the London duo’s interest in N’Zonzi, it’s fair to say that both clubs’ central midfield ranks are looking overcrowded right now.

With the likes of Aaron Ramsey and Cesc Fabregas no longer automatic selections in central midfield when fully fit, it remains to be seen where a player such as N’Zonzi would fit in amidst this competition.
