Preston North End will be absolutely delighted to see the back of Newcastle United until April with Rafael Benitez’s Magpies having just inflicted two defeats on Simon Grayson’s men in a week.

Smashing North End 6-0 to reach the last eight of the EFL Cup on Tuesday before running out 1-2 victors at Deepdale in the Championship on Saturday, the Toon Army must be delighted right now.

Top of the second tier after 15 games played so far this season, there have been no signs of complacency from Rafael Benitez’s men who are looking in ominous form ahead of what would be a return to the Premier League at the first attempt.

Considering the misfortune their fierce North East neighbours Sunderland are suffering at the foot of the Premier League right now, Newcastle United – effectively a place below them in the second-tier – are absolutely buzzing right now with the Toon Army in optimistic spirits again.

While every Magpies fan wants to be back in the Premier League, you simply can’t beat that feeling of your team winning games on a regular basis.
