The extent of Georginio Wijnaldum’s injury with the Netherlands is still unknown but Liverpool are still keen on recruiting Geoffrey Kondogbia as a transfer priority in January, report the Daily Star.

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Jurgen Klopp has reportedly told Anfield chiefs that the out-of-favour Inter Milan midfielder is the player he wants above all others in the New Year.

Publicly criticised by Inter boss Frank de Boer for some below par performances of late, 23-year-old Kondogbia has plenty to prove at San Siro.

Having only made four appearances for the Nerazzurri so far this term, Kondogbia is hardly an indispensable player for the Italian giants in a boost to the Reds’ chances of luring him to Anfield.

Perhaps the only caveat to Kondogbia’s situation right now lay in the fact that his agent doesn’t seem to be actively pushing for his client to make an escape route out of Italy.

Jonathan Maarek previously told TuttoMercatoWeb: “Despite the current situation, Geoffrey is relaxed. There are no problems and he is happy at Inter.”

Given this is how the landscape lay with Kondogbia’s situation at present, it appears Liverpool will have to be bullish in this particular transfer pursuit.
