A move failed to materialise back in the January transfer window but Liverpool stand a far better chance of landing Andrea Ranocchia a year on with the Italian now deemed surplus to requirements, report talkSPORT.

Having only started Inter Milan’s Europa League defeat to Hapoel Be’er Sheva so far this season, it appears Ranocchia is way down new coach Frank de Boer’s defensive pecking order right now.

Jurgen Klopp strengthened his Reds defence with the signings of Joel Matip and Ragnar Klavan in the summer but prior to that, the German made enquiries over 28-year-old Ranocchia.

An experienced player of 21 senior international caps for Italy, the 6 ft 5 in giant is certainly a player Klopp likes but with Matip and Klavan having enjoyed positive starts to their Liverpool career, it remains to be seen whether a bid will be sanctioned.

With Mamadou Sakho outcast at Liverpool right now, RedsĀ fans may believe Ranocchia could be a replacement for the undisciplined Frenchman but Klopp would need to find a buyer first.

Elsewhere, Torino are also looking at Ranocchia who has appeared over 120 times for Inter in Serie A thus far.
