He first entered Manchester United’s academy ranks at the age of nine but now, Danny Drinkwater could be the subject of a surprise £30 million January swoop by the Red Devils, report The Sun.

Jose Mourinho has struggled to strike the right balance in central midfield so far this term and England international Drinkwater is believed to be an ideal pivot to sit in front of United’s back four.

Only signing a new £90,000-a-week deal with Leicester City in August, Foxes fans will be hopeful that Drinkwater remains like Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez but Manchester United could tempt him into unfinished business at Old Trafford.

Now 26-years-old, Drinkwater has earned three international caps with England thus far but a transfer to the likes of Manchester United would surely catapult him into being more of a regular under Sam Allardyce.

Favouring a central midfield trio of Marouane Fellaini, Paul Pogba and Wayne Rooney against Watford, this quite simply didn’t work and if Mourinho can’t find an effective trio before January, perhaps United will formalise their interest in Drinkwater.
