Man United lead Arsenal in race to land 17-year-old starlet

He may not have received too many more chances since bursting onto the scene last term but Manchester United are leading Arsenal in the race to sign Reece Oxford, report the Daily Mail.

The West Ham United defender / midfielder’s contract at the Olympic StadiumĀ is set to expire at the end of the season and Slaven Bilic’s side are yet to tie the teenager down to extended terms in East London.

Manchester United are reportedly the favourites to capitalise on Oxford’s situation with West Ham having already failed to secure the 17-year-old’s future when holding initial talks last summer.

With Manchester City and Arsenal also keen, Arsene Wenger’s side witnessed Oxford’s talent first hand when the teenager effectively marked Mesut Ozil out of the game in West Ham United’s impressive season opening victory at Emirates Stadium last term.

Despite impressing back then, Oxford has been used sparingly by Bilic ever since and still awaits his first appearance in West Ham United’s first team this term having been an unused substitute on three occasions in the Premier League.
