They may have spent over £140 million in the summer but Manchester United are eyeing up a swoop for Real Madrid midfielder Isco, according to a report from The Express today.

Rated at around £25 million, the Spanish international can play in either central or attacking midfield, an area in which Wayne Rooney has been flattering to deceive of late.

Only making an 18-minute cameo from the bench against Real Sociedad so far this season, Isco is only a bit-part player under Zinedine Zidane with Luka Modric and Toni Kroos often selected as the Frenchman’s preferred central midfield duo.

Scoring 15 goals in 99 La Liga appearances for Real Madrid since signing from Malaga in 2013, Isco was previously a long-term target of Manchester City but now it appears Manchester United are keen on providing him an escape route.

Despite Mourinho previously managing Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013, Isco was signed shortly after the Portuguese boss left the Spanish giants in June 2013.

It remains to be seen who Mourinho will favour in his central midfield trio going forward with Marouane Fellaini, Paul Pogba and Wayne Rooney all disappointing in the 3-1 defeat to Watford on Sunday.
