Liverpool could be set to bolster their strikeforce in the January transfer window with Reds scouts having watched Sassuolo striker Grégoire Defrel on Sunday, report ClubCall.

The trip was worth it with the 25-year-old Frenchman scoring a header in the Serie A sides’ 2-0 victory over Genoa with the striker having also interested Crystal Palace in the summer.

Rated at around £12 million, Defrel was the subject of a failed £11 million bid from Alan Pardew’s side in the summer and the signs are that the former Cesena man’s star is on the rise.

Having also scored five goals in his last six Europa League outings for Sassuolo, Liverpool are now clearly keen on following the Frenchman’s progress much more closely.

Already boasting Daniel Sturridge, Divock Origi and Danny Ings of course, Jurgen Klopp has favoured Roberto Firmino as his ideal centre forward so far this term buy any swoop for Defrel would surely depend on one of these strikers departing Anfield.

With Ings having failed to make a Reds appearance so far this term, it appears the former Burnley man has the most work to do to force his way into Klopp’s plans right now.
