He was Jurgen Klopp’s first signing as Liverpool boss back in January but Reds midfielder Marko Grujic has warned fans not to expect his best form until next season, report Reuters.

A £5.1 million arrival from Red Star Belgrade, Serbian international Grujic is still only 20-years-old and has admitted the step up in class has been particularly challenging.

“It was hard in pre-season, especially for me because I have come from Serbia and our work here is at a higher level.

“The running and exercises are harder and I’m still learning, but I’m sure I will adapt. I’m proud that I can work with the staff here and it will be OK. For the first season I just want to learn from these guys.”

In Liverpool’s four Premier League fixtures so far, Grujic has been an unused substitute apart from 13 minutes he received in a cameo in the 2-0 loss to Burnley whereby the Reds were chasing the game.

Very much a work in progress kind of signing with Klopp also boasting Georginio Wijnaldum, Jordan Henderson, Emre Can, James Milner and Adam Lallana who can play in Grujic’s position, it appears the young Serb knows exactly what his role is this term.

“I have the big pleasure of playing with some of the best footballers in the world. I want to get some minutes and games to try and improve myself for the future. I think next season will be the one where I show what I can do.”

There is no doubting that Grujic is learning in a positive environment with Liverpool having started the season well with notable four-goal victories over last season’s title challengers Arsenal and Leicester City.
