Chelsea star as influential as Suarez claims Liverpool legend

He bagged a brace in Barcelona’s 7-0 rout of Celtic and Liverpool legend Phil Thompson has claimed Chelsea striker Diego Costa is a similar kind of threat to Luis Suarez, report Sky Sports.

The Blues face Liverpool in a massive Premier League fixture at Stamford Bridge tomorrow and despite the controversy that follows him around, Thompson feels Costa is top quality and influential in Chelsea’s plans.

Starting the season in tremendous form with four Premier League goals in Chelsea’s opening four fixtures under new boss Antonio Conte, the subdued Diego Costa under Jose Mourinho seems like a distant memory.

Thompson said: “You would love him at your football club. It’s like Luis Suarez, everyone hated him but we loved him at Liverpool.

“I think he is fantastic. Yes, he goes over that line quite often but he does bring something special to that side.”

Luis Suarez’s Liverpool career was similarly shrouded in controversy despite the Uruguayan striker having registered 69 Premier League strikes in 110 appearances for the Merseyside outfit.

Taking his goalscoring form to new heights with Barcelona having struck 59 goals in just 65 La Liga appearances to date, Diego Costa will be hoping he can bag closer to 25 goals this season having only scored 16 in all competitions last term.
