Struggling skipper
Ryan Shawcross was one of the most reliable central defenders in the Premier League under Tony Pulis. After starting well under Mark Hughes, things have turned south for the no-nonsense Stoke captain.
Long injury lay-offs have no doubt contributed to this. Shawcross missed much of last season and, in an unexpected turn of events, was actually a detrimental force upon his return. He looks unable to turn quickly and will need to sit deeper if he is to continue starting regularly. Replacing such a Potters stalwart is unlikely, so Stoke need a drastic turnaround in form from Shawcross.
