Raphael Varane
A younger centre-half and one that would be more of a long-term solution is Real Madrid star Raphael Varane.
Like Fabinho, Jose Mourinho gave Varane a chance whilst at Real Madrid and he duly responded with a number of stunning performances.
He is now an established member of the Real Madrid first-team, but in recent years has failed to nail down a first-team spot ahead of Pepe and Sergio Ramos.
He would likely cost United a lot more than Jose Fonte, but this signing would be a long-term solution, rather than a short-term one.
Within a few years Varane could well develop into one of Europe’s best central defenders; and Mourinho is a manager that only wants the best players in the world at his club.
Varane is the perfect fit.
