Chelsea currently do not have a single natural left back in their first team squad – and with just one week to go until the transfer window shuts; Antonio Conte must act fast.
The club have yet to be concretely linked with a move for a left back this summer, and it is difficult to understand why.
Cesar Azpilicueta is Chelsea’s first choice left back, but the Spanish defender is naturally a right full back; and a talented one at that.
Continually playing him out of position is only going to be harmful to The Blues, and they would be much better off bringing in a natural left back and pushing Azpilicueta over to the right.
Jonas Hector is one player that could prove a real hit on the left hand side of the Chelsea defence, providing pace, offensive prowess and defensive stability to the Blues system.
With an absence of available left backs in Europe, Hector could be one of Chelsea’s very few options.
