Romelu Lukaku is set to stay at Goodison Park this summer, but that isn’t going to stop Ronald Koeman from reinforcing his striking options anyway.

Ronald Koeman has been quietly going about his business this summer, improving his squad in parts, whilst also placing an emphasis on retaining the top stars already at his club.

He recently resisted a big money move from Chelsea for star striker Romelu Lukaku, in what could become the best piece of business of the summer for the Merseyside club.

However, it doesn’t look like he is content with his strike force even with Lukaku staying, with the Everton boss reportedly closing in on a move for another attacking star.

According to the BBC, Everton are eyeing a move for Deportivo La Coruna striker Lucas Perez Martinez, with the striker reportedly seen as an alternative to Lukaku up top.

They add that the deal is likely to cost around the £15 million mark.

A relatively unknown name in England, Martinez bagged an impressive 17 La Liga goals last season, leaving him 11th in the goalscoring charts for the league.

Long shots and ball retention are particularly important in the Premier League, with the player likely to play alongside Romelu Lukaku.

He could be the perfect target man at the tip of the Everton attack.

Conversely, a lack of aerial superiority is worrying – but alongside Lukaku, it shouldn’t be too much of a problem.
