Edinson Cavani (2)

According to reports from ESPN, Chelsea and Manchester United strike target Edinson Cavani will look to leave PSG during the summer transfer window.

Despite an impressive haul of 75 goals in 135 appearances since signing from Napoli in summer 2013, including 19 strikes across all competitions this season, the Uruguay international has continually found himself playing a secondary role to Zlatan Ibrahimovic – the Parisians’ lone front man.

The iconic Swede is set to leave Parc de Princes on a free transfer this summer, allowing Cavani to finally take his place at the tip of attack. But it appears the damage has already been done, with ESPN – who cite L’Equipe – claiming the 29-year-old is ready to push for an exit at the end of the season regardless after being benched for the second leg of PSG’s Champions League win over Chelsea last week.

The report focuses on interest from Manchester United, who will be desperate to source a centre-forward with a dependable goal record during the coming transfer window. They’ve scored the fewest times of any side in the Premier League’s top seven this season and first-choice striker Wayne Rooney is now 30 years of age.

But Chelsea are said to have also taken a vested interest in Cavani’s future, as reported by The Daily Mail last week. Italy gaffer Antonio Conte, widely expected to take the managerial reigns at Stamford Bridge this summer, is allegedly a keen admirer of the 6-foot assassin, who he saw bag 104 goals in 138 appearances for Napoli whilst in charge of Serie A rivals Empoli and Juventus.

PSG are reportedly prepared to sell for £31million during the summer transfer window, recouping over half of their original £55million investment. But with Cavani ready to push for a move and his contract set to expire at the end of next season, the French champions may be forced to accept lesser bids.
