Sergio Busquets

According to reports from Sport, Manchester City, Manchester United and PSG are hoping to prize Sergio Busquets away from Barcelona during the summer transfer window.

Despite rarely grabbing the headlines in the same way as Lionel Messi or Andres Iniesta, the defensive midfielder has been an integral influence on Barcelona’s dominance of La Liga and European football.

He’s lifted five La Liga titles, three Copa del Reys and three Champions League titles since his 2008 debut, amassing 369 appearances across all competitions, and has remained one of the first names on the team sheet under Barcelona’s last four managers – including Manchester City bound Pep Guardiola.

According to Sport, the Spain international wants a new contract that puts his salary in line with Barcelona’s more coveted names. But the Catalan outfit are yet to deliver and Busquets is growing impatient, in no small part due to heavy interest in his services from abroad.

Indeed, Manchester City, Manchester United and PSG are all reportedly targeting the 27-year-old ahead of the summer transfer window, with all three clubs prepared to pay €100million to acquire his signature. It’s believed informal proposals from the trio have already been tabled.

But the 6 foot 2 enforcer remains an integral cog of the Barcelona starting Xi and the club will struggle to find an equally effective replacement, so the chances are that they’ll eventually meet Busquets’ wishes before City, United or PSG get too close to signing him.
