According to reports from Mirror Football, Everton are interested in signing Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick on a free transfer this summer.

The England international has lifted five Premier League titles, a Capital One Cup and a Champions League title during his decade at Old Trafford, but looks set to leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season.

When recently quizzed on the issue of his winding down United deal, the deep-lying playmaker told reporters; “I haven’t heard anything just at the moment. Hopefully I will sometime soon. I am not making a big deal of it. I’ll just have to wait and see what happens. I am quite relaxed about it.”

According to Mirror Football, Everton are keen to acquire the 34-year-old on a free transfer, which could see him and fellow playmaking veteran Gareth Barry share duties at the base of the Toffees’ midfield next season.

However, the Goodison outfit are by no means the only club accredited with an interest in the former West Ham and Tottenham Hotspur star ahead of the summer transfer window.

Newcastle United are also reportedly chasing a free transfer for the ageing Geordie, who began his career with nearby Wallsend Boys club, whilst Arsenal have been linked with a fourth approach for Carrick, who Arsene Wenger allegedly attempted to sign in 2004, 2oo6 and last summer.
