According to reports from The Sun, Manchester United have held talks with representatives of Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino about becoming their next manager.
It appears the Red Devils will replace under-fire manager Louis van Gaal at the end of the season and the front-runner for the Old Trafford hot seat remains former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho. It was reported last week that negotiations are already underway and the Special One is “confident” of getting the job.

But according to The Sun, United are also sounding out Tottenham Hotspur’s Mauricio Pochettino as a potential alternative to the Portuguese, particularly admiring his exciting style of football and strong track record of developing young players. The likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Eric Dier and Christian Eriksen, all of whom are aged 23 or younger, have flourished under his direction this season.
But the Argentine is under contract at White Hart Lane until 2019 and Spurs chairman Daniel Levy will be reluctant to let him leave, especially if the north Londoners qualify for the Champions League this season as expected. They’re currently second in the Premier League table, seven points above 5th-placed Manchester United.
The British tabloid resultantly speculate it could cost as much as £20million to convince Levy to part with the former Espanyol boss.
