According to reports from The Daily Star, Newcastle United are preparing a summer transfer bid for wantaway Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge.
The 26-year-old boasts a potent scoring record for the Reds, netting 44 times in 72 appearances across all competitions, but has managed just 17 Premier League outings since the start of last season amid 18 months of relentless injury problems.
Earlier this week, reports claimed the England international will look to revive his stuttering career by leaving Anfield in the summer, feeling in need of a fresh start and having grown tired of accusations that he’s not committed to overcoming his fitness problems.

Arsenal and Manchester United have both been linked with shock low-ball bids for the former Chelsea and Manchester City star, with neither club prepared to pay full price for an injury-prone striker actively pushing to leave his current club.
But The Daily Star claim Newcastle United are also set to become a fixture in the race for Sturridge’s signature as they prepare a summer swoop of their own.
Landing a centre-forward was a major priority for the Magpies during the January transfer window. They chased a series of front men, including Chelsea’s Loic Remy and West Bromwich Albion’s Saido Berahino, before eventually signing Seydou Doumbia on loan.
Sturridge would be a more than suitable successor to the CKSA Moscow man but according to The Star, Jurgen Klopp is only willing to consider offers around the £30million mark – which would constitute a new record transfer fee for the Tynesiders.
