Winner and Champion - Pep Guardiola

According to Sport, incoming Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini wants to make eight signings next summer; whilst The Daily Star report that January arrival Alexandre Pato is still some way off making his Chelsea debut.

The Citizens confirmed on transfer deadline day that Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola will replace Manuel Pellegrini in the Etihad hot seat next season and Spanish publication Sport claim he’s already in talks with sporting director Txiki Bergiristain regarding summer recruitment.

The Spaniard allegedly wants to bring in at least eight new faces – two full-backs, two centre-backs, two midfielders and back up to Sergio Aguero – but will not look to raid his former club, Barcelona, for their star players.

The likes of Neymar and Lionel Messi have been linked in recent weeks but Sport claim City will only bid for players the Catalans actively look to sell next summer to avoid ‘institutional conflict’.

Meanwhile, Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink has revealed that January signing Alexandre Pato is still some way from making his first-team debut due to a lack of fitness.

The 26-year-old arrived at Stamford Bridge on loan last month but hasn’t played a competitive fixture since the Brazilian season drew to a close in December.

Resultantly, the former Corinthians and Sao Paolo star has been put on a special training regime to improve his fitness – and won’t be in contention for first-team action for at least a few more games.

As quoted by The Daily Star, Hiddink said during today’s press conference; “Pato is in his pre-season and we have made a training plan which he is doing now every day at least once but lots of days twice training which means he is getting his fitness but not full fitness yet.

“He needs to be fine-tuned. We made a good plan. He will not be in the squad for the upcoming few games. We want to have him fit not going too early for the risk of injury in this tough league.”
