Out - Mathieu Debuchy

According to reports from Sky Sports, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed he blocked Mathieu Debuchy’s potential loan move to Manchester United on transfer deadline day.

The France international was desperate to secure a move away from the Emirates last month after seeing just 144 minutes’ worth of Premier League action during the first half of the season, fearing for his place in Didier Deschamps’ Euro 2016 squad.

He eventually joined Bordeaux on a six-month loan but Manchester United also launched a bid for the 30-year-old amid injuries to all five of their senior full-backs – Luke ShawAntonio Valencia, Ashley Young, Marcos Rojo and Matteo Darmian.

Debuchy has since revealed that manager Arsene Wenger personally blocked his potential move to United, criticising Le Professeur during a recent interview with Canal+.

He said; “I was disappointed, obviously. If I had the chance to go to Manchester United it would have been magnificent. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the case. I discussed it with the coach too, who said that obviously he couldn’t help out a rival. Yes, I’m a little bit annoyed with him. It’s his choice.”

And Wenger confirmed the rumours during today’s pre-match press conference ahead of Arsenal’s FA Cup clash with Hull City in a 12.45pm kick-off at the Emirates tomorrow afternoon.

As quoted by Sky Sports, the Gunners gaffer said; “You loan players out to clubs who do not have the resources, but not to direct opponents. There was nothing shocking in that and it’s true, I stand up for that. I was surprised. I can understand it (United trying to sign Debuchy) but I found it logical to block the loan.”
