Ryan Bertrand

According to an exclusive from The Daily Star, Manchester United are preparing a late swoop for Southampton’s Ryan Bertrand; whilst The Express report that Liverpool goalkeeper Ryan Fulton has completed a loan move to Portsmouth.

United find themselves severely lacking in the full-back department after Ashley Young was ruled out for the next two months earlier this week – joining resident No.3 Luke Shaw and midfielder-come-right-back Antonio Valencia on the sidelines.

It has left the Carrington outfit desperate to sign another left-back before the close of the January transfer window and The Daily Star claim they’re resultantly targeting Southampton’s Ryan Bertrand, who claimed a spot in last season’s Premier League Team of the Season and has produced consistent form once again this term.

But with the Saints likely reluctant to sell, United could be forced to pay over £20million to sign the England international, who rose through the ranks at Chelsea before moving to St. Mary’s, initially on loan, in summer 2014.

Meanwhile, The Express report that rookie Liverpool goalkeeper Ryan Fulton has joined Portsmouth on loan for the rest of the season.

The 19-year-old signed a new contract at Anfield in December and was handed the 39 jersey. He’s made it onto the Reds’ first team bench on four occasions but is unlikely to see any action this season, with Simon Mignolet, Adam Bogdan and Danny Ward – who was recently recalled from a loan spell with Aberdeen – above him in the pecking order.

The Scotland U21, who first joined the Reds’ academy set-up at the age of nine, has been described as “an excellent communicator and an imposing figure” by the club’s official website. He’ll contest Paul Jones, Michael Poke and Brian Murphy for a starting berth at Fratton Park.

Ronald Koeman has stated that no one will be leaving, I believe him rather than some press hack.
