Ross Barkley

According to The Sun, Manchester City have identified Everton’s Ross Barkley as a replacement for Yaya Toure; whilst The Guardian report that Newcastle United look set to end their interest in Tottenham Hotspur winger Andros Townsend.

Toure is set to stay at the Eithad until the end of the campaign but outspoken agent Dimitri Seluk has recently hinted at a summer departure – claiming the Ivory Coast international will ‘listen to every offer‘ before next season.

According to The Sun, the Citizens have already earmarked Everton’s Ross Barkley as a direct replacement for the goalscoring midfielder. The England international has claimed five goals and six assists in 22 Premier League outings this season and is a shoo-in for Roy Hodgon’s Euro 2016 squad.

However, City were put off the 22-year-old in summer 2014 by the Toffees’ £50million valuation and The Sun claim they may have to pay even more to sign him after the tournament in France.

Meanwhile, The Guardian report that Newcastle United are set to end their interest in Tottenham Hotspur winger Andros Townsend due to the club’s £14million valuation.

The England international hasn’t featured for the Lilywhites since a Europa League outing in October and is desperate to secure regular playing time to improve his chances of making it into Roy Hodgson’s Euro 2016 squad.

Newcastle United launched a £12million bid last week but it was rejected, with chairman Daniel Levy has refusing to budge on the winger’s £14million price-tag.

Consequentially, The Guardian report that the Magpies are now set to switch their attentions to likeminded targets. QPR’s Matt Phillips, Aston Villa’s Scott Sinclair and Barcelona youngster Sandro Ramirez are all on the Magpies’ radar.
