According to reports from The Daily Mail, Manchester City have joined the race to sign highly-rated Athletic Bilbao starlet Inaki Williams.

The Spain U21 has been dubbed ‘the fastest player in La Liga’ after setting a new Spanish top flight record of travelling at a whopping 22.2 miles per hour last season and has been in scintillating scoring form this term, bagging six goals in 14 La Liga starts and ten in 21 across all competitions.

Last week, Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur were all linked with the 6 foot 1 starlet, who can operate as a winger on either flank or as an out-and-out frontman, and are reportedly considering activating his £15million release clause before the close of the January transfer window.

But according to The Daily Mail, the Premier League trio now face sizable competition for Williams’ signature from title-hopefuls Manchester City. City scout Rob Newman and head of recruitment Gary Worthington watched the 21-year-old score the winner against Villarreal in last Wednesday’s Copa del Rey action and ran the rule over him once again during a heavy defeat to Barcelona on Sunday.

In a boost to the transfer efforts of all four rumoured suitors, the British newspaper add that Bilbao are struggling to agree the terms of an improved contract with Williams’ agent Felix Tanita.
