Alex Teixeira

According to reports from The Daily Mail, Liverpool have launched a £23million bid for Chelsea target and Shakhtar Donetsk star Alex Teixeira.

The in-form Brazilian has bagged 26 goals in as many appearances for the Ukrainian outfit this season, including three strikes in the Champions League, and was first linked with a Stamford Bridge switch back in October.

Teixeira later claimed he’d received an offer from Chelsea and manager Mircea Lucescu stated earlier this month that he’d support the 25-year-old if he decided to leave for a top European club – making a January move to West London seemingly inevitable.

But reports yesterday revealed that negotiations have stalled and it appears Liverpool have sought to capitalise on the situation by launching a bid of their own.

According to The Daily Mail, a Reds delegation including chief executive Ian Ayre have travelled to Florida, where Shakhtar are playing in the Florida Cup, to begin talks over a move to Merseyside.

They’re believed to have tabled a £23million bid and rather intriguingly, the attacking midfielder was left out of the Shakhtar squad that faced Corinthians yesterday evening.

Chelsea cannot spot players anymore. They sell players like Sturridge and Lukaku and bring in Torres and Falcao, good before injury before Man Utd flop and they ignore quality youth who are in their own club. Pato will not succeed, he’s known to be injury prone, will get kicked off the park by Premier League defenders (aided and abetted by duff referees) and will struggle for goals at Chelsea who now have little creativity. Please Mr Abramovich get top football people selecting transfer targets and a Manager who is strong enough to select youth such as Loftus-Cheek, Baba, Musonda, Kenedy, Traore and Lewis Baker to name a few.
