The German gaffer is wary of rushing into a deal, but the 28-year-old is reportedly on his short list of potential January reinforcements.

Meanwhile, Whoscored – who cite France Football – claim Spurs have seen a £6million bid rejected for Toulouse forward Wissam Ben Yedder.

The 25-year-old can operate as a frontman or a No.10 and has claimed 52 goals in 125 Ligue 1 appearances since the start of the 2012/13 campaign – including seven league strikes for the Stadium Municipal outfit this season.

Amid their search for a dependable understudy to first-choice striker Harry Kane, Spurs have launched a failed £6million bid for the former France U21. Toulouse’s asking price for Ben Yedder is reportedly £2million more.
