Chelsea star agrees new contract; Arsenal and West Ham in midfielder transfer talks

Branislav Ivanovic

According to The Times, Branislav Ivanovic has agreed the terms of a contract extension at Chelsea; whilst The Metro report that West Ham are in negotiations with Arsenal over the transfer of veteran midfielder Mikel Arteta.

The Serbian international’s underwhelming performances this season have lead to plenty of speculation over his future at Stamford Bridge, with his current contract set to expire at the end of the season.

A number of Serie A sides have been linked in recent weeks but The Times claim Ivanovic has now agreed the terms of a one-year contract with the west Londoners – that will also include a twelve-month extension clause based on the number of appearances he makes next season. The 31-year-old defender is expected to officially put pen to paper next month.

Meanwhile, The Metro – who cite Spanish publication Fichajes – claim Arsenal midfielder Mikel Arteta could be in line for a January move to West Ham.

The 33-year-old currently serves as Gunners captain but is yet to register a single start in the Premier League this season and could be pushed further down the pecking order by expected January arrival Mohamed Elneny.

The Hammers were reportedly keen on signing the Spanish playmaker in the summer upon the expiration of his Emirates contract but are now in talks to bring him to Upton Park this month instead.
