Sadio Mane

According to reports from Mirror Football, Chelsea, Manchester United and Bayern Munich are hoping Sadio Mane’s refusal to sign a new contract at Southampton will force the club to sell during the January transfer window.

The Senegal winger was subject to a £20million bid from Manchester United last summer after notching up ten goals during his debut Premier League campaign – including a three-minute hat-trick against Aston Villa in May. The Saints rebuffed the Red Devils’ offer but the 23-year-old has continued to attract admirers, most particularly in Premier League champions Chelsea and Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.

Whilst Mane’s return of three goals and six assists in 17 Premier League starts this season remains decent if unspectacular, it’s his scintillating pace and the manner in which it has affected big games – most notably during shock wins over Chelsea and Arsenal – that has generated interest from Europe’s elite.

Southampton have continually insisted none of their players will be sold during the January transfer window, with manager Ronald Koeman claiming in December that not even a £100million bid will convince him to cash-in on any of the club’s stellar names.

But the situation with Mane is rapidly deteriorating; the former Red Bull Salzburg star has made it clear he won’t extend his St. Mary’s contract past summer 2018 and he was dropped by Koeman for the Saints’ 1-0 defeat to Norwich City last Saturday after arriving late for a team meeting.

The versatile attacker, who has operated as a striker, a No.10 and a winger this season, still expects to stay on the south coast until the summer. But crunch talks between Mane, his representatives and the club are scheduled for next week and they could facilitate his departure six months earlier than expected.

According to Mirror Football, Chelsea, Manchester United and Bayern Munich are monitoring developments in the hope Southampton decide to sell the £30million-rated forward this month.
