Robin van Persie

According to reports from The Express, Chelsea will swoop for former Arsenal and Manchester United striker Robin van Persie if Alexandre Pato’s loan deal falls through.

The Brazil international is expected to have a medical at Stamford Bridge today after jetting off to London on Tuesday evening, following news that the Blues have agreed a six-month loan deal with Corinthians.

But the 26-year-old’s AC Milan career was plagued by injuries and it remains to be seen if he’ll pass an examination in west London, whilst work permit issues are another concern considering Pato hasn’t played in Europe since 2011.

Should the deal fall through, The Express claim the Premier League champions will turn their attentions to former Arsenal and Manchester United striker Robin van Persie, who bagged two Golden Boots, one Player of the Year award and one league title during his eleven years in the English top flight.

The Netherlands international left Old Trafford for Fenerbahce in the summer but has struggled to produce his best form, netting eleven times across all competitions thus far, and reports in October suggested he could end his short Super Lig career with a shock move to Barcelona.

According to Sky Sports, however, Chelsea would have to launch an ‘extraordinary offer’ to convince Fenerbache to sell before the January transfer window closes on Monday.
