Sadio Mane

According to reports from The Daily Mail, Southampton have rejected Manchester United’s approach for in-demand winger Sadio Mane.

The Senegal star was subject to a £20million bid from the Red Devils last summer after notching up ten goals during his debut Premier League campaign – including a three-minute hat-trick against Aston Villa in May.

He’s continued to attract interest this season, most particularly from Chelsea, Bayern Munich and United, through a series of strong performances against the Premier League’s top clubs and a return of three goals and six assists in 17 starts.

It was revealed earlier this week that Chelsea, United and Bayern Munich were all hoping the 23-year-old would be able to force a move away from St. Mary’s during the January transfer window, after refusing to extend his contract past summer 2018.

But in a bitter blow to the transfer efforts of the Champions League trio, The Daily Mail claim Southampton have already rejected an approach from Manchester United – stressing in no uncertain terms that the £30million-rated forward will not be allowed to leave the club this month.

Mane is said to be relaxed about the situation, working under the proviso that the Saints will sanction his much-anticipated departure at the end of the season.
