According to reports from The Guardian, Chelsea target Marko Grujic has confirmed he’s been approached by Premier League rivals Liverpool regarding a potential transfer to Anfield.

Measuring in at a whopping 6 foot 3, the Red Star Belgrade midfielder has earned comparisons with countryman and current Blues star Nemanja Matic. He first drew attention as Serbia lifted the U20 World Cup in New Zealand last summer and has since been linked with Premier League duo Chelsea and Manchester United.

The 19-year-old confirmed interest from west London last month, telling reporters; “Nemanja Matic is a friend, he’s Serbian and he has been at Chelsea for over a year. He tells me that they want me.”

But Liverpool were mooted as late arrivals in the race to snap up the teenager monolith earlier this week. He’s already well-known to assistant manager Zeljko Buvac, a Bosnian Serb, and Reds scouts reportedly held talks with Grujic after watching him net past Cukaricki last Saturday.

The Guardian report that the highly-rated teenager has now confirmed that he did indeed discuss his future with Liverpool’s representatives last weekend, but insisted that any move will take place at the end of the season – when he hopes to secure Red Star’s qualification to the Champions League.

As quoted by the British newspaper, he said; “I’ll try to respect the club, the fans and the general public, but again I think that for myself I have to choose the best environment where I get the chance to play and where I work with good coaches in good conditions. It is certain that I remain here until the end of qualifying for the Champions League. I had a talk with Liverpool but I did not receive yet any agreement. I’m still a Red Star player.”

Prior reports have claimed Red Star would sell for around £3million, but The Guardian value him at £5million. Inter Milan are also known admirers of Grujic.
