According to reports from The Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur will test Marseille with an early bid for Arsenal strike target Michy Batshuayi during the January transfer window.

The Marseille frontman has been in superb form this season, firing his way to third in the Ligue 1 goal charts with ten in 17 outings before this weekend’s round of fixtures.

Top clubs have tracked the Belgium international since his free-scoring days at Standard Liege, where he netted 39 times in 97 league appearances before moving to Stade Velodrome in summer 2014.

But interest in the 5 foot 11 striker has really accelerated since the start of the season; Premier League outfits Arsenal, Chelsea, Newcastle and Tottenham Hotspur have all been linked, whilst Atletico Madrid and Valencia represent La Liga’s mooted suitors.

According to The Daily Mail, scouts from Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur both ran the rule over Batshuayi during a 1-0 win over Rennes earlier this month. The Lilywhites are now ready to test Marseille’s resolve – and hopefully beat the Gunners to the punch – with an early bid for the two-cap international in January.

But Marseille president Vincente Labrune has recently warned that potential suitors would have to pay top dollar to sign the club’s leading goalscorer in the coming transfer window, telling reporters last month; “There is not a single top 15 world club that is not interested in Batshuayi. He is one of the most wanted players on the market. There were a lot of offers for him this summer, but he did not want to leave. He is proving himself on the pitch. And if clubs want him then they are going to have to pay up. Around €50m!”

I would hope that our Belgium contingency may swing the odds in our favour when trying to sign this guy, they should all get on the blower and talk him into signing for us. just the type of striker we need.
