Out - David De Gea

According to reports from The Daily Star, Real Madrid are preparing a £40million summer swoop for Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea.

The Spain international notoriously came close to joining the Bernabeu ranks in the summer as his Red Devils contract entered it’s final twelve months, but a deal worth £29million and including Keylor Navas in exchange collapsed at the last minute.

The Red Devils have since tied the 25-year-old down to a four-year contract, making him the best-paid goalkeeper in world football, but a £36million release clause allegedly included in the deal has cast serious doubts over the longevity of his Old Trafford stay.

The Daily Star claims Los Blancos will revive their interest next summer, despite a string of impressive performances from Keylor Navas this term, and are prepared to add an extra £4million to De Gea’s price tag to further sweeten the deal.

The British tabloid quote a Real Madrid spokesman as saying; “Real Madrid will not attempt to sign David De Gea in the January window. But the club is proposed to sign him in the summer for next season.”

Should the proposed £40million deal go ahead, De Gea would become the most expensive goalkeeper of all time – trumping the record currently held by Juventus’ £30million acquisition Gigi Buffon.
