According to reports from The Daily Mail, Chelsea and Manchester United face fresh competition in the race to sign Southampton star Sadio Mane from Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.
The flying forward was subject to a £20million bid from Manchester United last summer after netting ten times in 30 appearances during his debut Premier League campaign – including a three-minute hat-trick against Aston Villa in May.
The offer was swiftly rejected by the Saints. But the 23-year-old has popped up on the Old Trafford radar again in recent weeks amid Louis van Gaal’s search for a ‘speedy winger’, whilst his return of three goals and five assists in 14 Premier League appearances this season has also attracted interest from reigning champions Chelsea.
With Southampton boss Ronald Koeman adamant that the Senegal international will not be sold in the coming transfer window – “You can ask again about Sadio, Manchester United, Chelsea, but we will sell nobody in January,” he told reporters last week – the race for Mane’s signature looks set to take place at the end of the season when his St. Mary’s contract enters its final two years.
But according to The Daily Mail, the Red Devils and the Blues will now face formidable competition from German giants Bayern Munich in their efforts to acquire the former Red Bull Salzburg star. It’s believed Southampton value Mane at £40million.
