According to an exclusive from Calcio Mercato, Arsenal are preparing a summer swoop for Napoli winger Lorenzo Insigne.

The 24-year-old is a product of the club’s youth system and made his debut back in 2009. After prolific loan spells with Foggia and Pescara in the lower tiers, the Italy international has been a mainstay in the Napoli starting lineup since the start of the 2012/13 campaign – going on to register 137 appearances across all competitions.

But Insigne is currently enjoying his best form to date for the Stadio San Paolo outfit. He’s fourth in Serie A’s goal charts with seven and first in the assists ranking with six, whilst averaging 4.1 shots, 2.6 created chances and 1.7 successful dribbles per match from his 15 league outings.

Calcio Mercato claim the Gunners are now preparing a summer bid for the six-cap international, who was once dubbed as ‘the Italian Messi‘ by former team-mate Goran Pandev and often compared with the four-time Ballon d’Or winner during his younger years.

Although the Gunners are yet to make an official offer, their scouts are continuing to assess Insigne’s performances. With his contract not set to expire until 2019, however, only a huge fee will convince Napoli to sell next summer.
