According to reports from The Daily Star, Chelsea and Liverpool target Kelechi Nwakali has revealed his desire to play for Premier League rivals Arsenal.
The Nigerian prodigy won the Golden Ball award at this month’s U17 World Cup, held in Chile, as the Golden Eaglets lifted the title for the fifth time and in successive tournaments.
He’s the brother of Manchester City youngster Kelechi Chidiebere – not to be confused with fellow Nigerian and fellow City youngster Kelechi Iheanacho, the 19-year-old who burst onto the scene earlier this season with a stoppage-time winner against Crystal Palace – and has been on trial at the Eithad before.
According to The Daily Star, the 17-year-old, who ESPN have described as “a right-footed playmaker with good technical attributes, a keen eye for a pass and a rasping shot,” has also attracted interest from Chelsea and Liverpool.
But it appears Arsenal is Nwakali’s preferred destination in terms of the Premier League, having told Nigerian outlet MTN Football; “I would love to play for Arsenal. They are their Premier League club I will like to play for, because they play the best football in the world.”
Reporting on the same story, The Metro believe the young midfielder is likely to complete a move in the January transfer window.
