According to reports from The Daily Star, Manchester City are the bookies’ favourites to sign Bayern Munich front-man Robert Lewandowski.

The Poland international has netted 19 times in 18 appearances this season and scored the most league goals, 14, of any player in Europe’s five leading top flights.

In recent weeks, he’s been linked with Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United following heavy interest from the Premier League throughout the summer transfer window – in no small part due to agent Cezary Kucharski insinuating that the Bavarians could sell for a more than reasonable £35million.

But according to Betfair, at least, it’s the Citizens who are leading the race for the 27-year-old’s signature. The Red Devils were originally priced as the favourites but their ‘noisy neighbours’ now top the market at 8/1.

Michael Bowers, Football Trader for Betfair said: “Robert Lewandowski was talk of the town in the last transfer window, with Manchester United leading the betting to sign the Bayern striker. But after a deluge of bets it would appear that, ahead of January’s transfer window, Manchester City are leading the battle for the Polish international’s signature at 8/1 with United second favourite at 12/1.”

However, the chances of a move to the Premier League in January still seem relatively slim. Lewandowski is enjoying his best form to date for Bayern, since joining them from Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer in summer 2014.
