According to reports from The Express, Newcastle United could offer former Arsenal and Chelsea star Ashley Cole the chance to return to the Premier League in January.
The ex-England international made 228 appearances for Arsenal and 338 appearances for Chelsea – winning three Premier League titles, seven FA Cups, the 2012 Champions League title and 107 Three Lions caps in the process – before leaving the English top flight for Roma in summer 2014.
But the 34-year-old has gone on to make just eleven appearances across all competitions for Giallorossi and is yet to register a single outing this season, following the summer arrival of former PSG full-back Lucas Digne.
Cole’s Stadio Olympico contract expires at the end of the season, but manager Rudi Garcia is keen to find him a new club during the January transfer window – with Newcastle United tipped as his likeliest suitors.
The veteran left-back rejected the chance to sign for the Magpies on summer deadline day, but The Express expect manager Steve McClaren to renew his interest in January.
