According to reports from L’Equipe via The Metro, Manchester United could revive their interest in PSG star Lucas Moura amid Louis van Gaal’s search for a new winger.
The Old Trafford gaffer has made no secret of his desire to sign a ‘speedy and creative‘ wide-man. He told reporters after a 2-0 win over West Bromwich Albion; “You have seen that now we play with Jesse Lingard and he is not the most speedy winger in the world and Mata is also not the most speedy winger in the world. So first we must first finish that problem and then we can see how we have to play and how we are in balance with playing with speedy wingers.”
And the Dutchman reiterated that message once again ahead of United’s Champions League clash with PSV Eindhoven earlier this week, declaring; “But still I need more balance in my selection and I have already said that we need fast wingers to get us to where we have to be.”
That has seen the Red Devils linked with countless wingers over the last few weeks and the latest to reportedly emerge on their radar is PSG’s Lucas Moura – who came close to moving to Old Trafford in summer 2012. In fact, it’s believed he even passed a medical at Carrington, but went on to join the Parc de Princes ranks instead at a cost of £44million.
The 23-year-old’s 15 goals in 87 Ligue 1 appearances have helped PSG claim three consecutive French titles, but he’s often had to endure the role of supersub – especially in the Champions League – and could move to the Premier League in search of greater game-time.
But the 33-cap Brazil international’s contract doesn’t expire until summer 2019, so United would have to come up with a rather sizable bid to sign him anytime soon.
