According to reports from The Daily Mail, Arsenal are close to announcing new and improved contracts for Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil.

The attacking duo’s performances have been integral to Arsenal’s Premier League title bid this season, the Chile international bagging six goals in twelve games – including a hat-trick against Leicester City – and the German World Cup winner recording ten assists in eleven outings.

Sanchez has impacted the Premier League so greatly since his £35million arrival in summer 2014 that even title rivals Manchester United are reportedly considering a £50million bid for the 26-year-old, with manager Louis van Gaal making no secret of his desire to bring another winger to Old Trafford.

Although seemingly absurd that the north London outfit would accept a bid for one of their star players from a direct rival, the Gunners are determined to protect themselves from such a scenario – knowing that Sanchez’ current contract will enter its final two years at the end of the season.

But according to The Mail, Arsenal are close to securing a new contract for the South American, with a new deal that will see him take home around £155k per week (a slight increase on his current terms of £135k per week) all but officially agreed.

That would make Sanchez the club’s top earner, but he won’t enjoy such status for very long. The Gunners are also working on a new and improved contract for record-signing Mesut Ozil, the club’s current top earner at £140k per week, who will expect to remain at the top of the food chain in regards to salaries.

Arsenal are hoping to announce both deals simultaneously, in what would be a huge boost to their Premier League title bid.
